eSpeedz Europe eSIM plans start at $8.99, and you can choose between a 35-area plan and a 41-country plan that adds France and Turkey. Both are prepaid and data-only, arrive by email as a QR code you install before you fly, and connect automatically when you land in a covered country.
One eSIM for the whole route, from Lisbon to Helsinki. Install it at home and you're online by the time you reach baggage claim, whichever country you land in first.
If you're coming from the US, roaming is where a Europe trip quietly gets expensive. AT&T's International Day Pass and Verizon's TravelPass both cost $12 a day, so a two-week trip can easily add more than $100 per phone, and Verizon drops you to 3G speeds after 5GB. T-Mobile includes basic data abroad on most plans, but at up to 256kbps it's fine for texts and painful for maps.
The real decision here is which plan family fits your route. The 35-area plan covers most of the EU plus the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Ukraine, Moldova, San Marino and Vatican City, but it does not include France or Turkey. The 41-country plan does include France and Turkey, adds Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Serbia, North Macedonia and the Aland Islands, and comes in smaller sizes like 1GB for 7 days. It doesn't list Moldova, San Marino or Vatican City, and neither family lists Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro, so check the country list against your itinerary before you buy.
Buying a local SIM in each country sounds cheap until you're doing it at every border. Italy, Spain and Germany all require passport registration for prepaid SIMs, Germany's checks can involve a video ID call, and a SIM bought in London isn't covered by the EU's roam-like-at-home rules once you cross the Channel. One eSIM for the whole route skips all of that.

Plans connect to leading local 4G/5G networks in Europe. Popular stops for travelers:
On a one-week trip through two or three countries, 3 to 5GB covers maps, train apps, messaging and some photo sharing. Two weeks of city-hopping with rideshares, restaurant searches and daily Instagram stories is more comfortable on 10GB. Remote workers should start at 20GB, while the 1GB 7-day option suits travelers who'll mostly live on hotel wifi.
Late spring (May and June) and early fall (September into October) are the sweet spot for most of Europe: long days, warm but not scorching weather, and lighter crowds than July and August, when the south gets hot and packed. Winter is quieter and cheaper, and from late November the Christmas markets in Germany, Austria and Central Europe are worth planning a trip around.
