Singapore eSIM for tourists and stopovers

An eSpeedz Singapore eSIM starts at $7.99 for prepaid, data-only service across the island, with plans from 5GB to 50GB. The QR code arrives by email, you install it before your flight, and it kicks in when your phone connects in Singapore.

Singapore is small, fast and very online. Whether it's a two-day stopover or a full week, land with data ready and spend your time eating, not hunting for wifi.

Staying connected in Singapore

A lot of people pass through Singapore rather than stay long, often on a stopover between the US and somewhere else in Asia. That's exactly when roaming hurts most, because you might pay a full daily pass just to book a Grab from Changi and check a hawker centre's opening hours. A small eSIM plan covers a short stay without the daily charges.

Changi has free wifi and so do most malls and hotels, but Singapore is a city you explore on foot and by MRT, moving between neighborhoods every few hours. Google Maps works well here, including live bus arrival times, and Grab and Gojek are the go-to apps for rides and food delivery. All of that needs a connection while you're out on the street, not just in your hotel.

Getting a local tourist SIM is easy enough, but it means a stop at a counter with your passport after a long flight. With an eSIM installed at home, you can switch it on in the arrivals hall and be in a taxi or on the train while everyone else is still in the queue.

How much data do you need?

Singapore trips tend to be short and wifi is easy to find, so data needs are modest. For a stopover of two or three days, 3GB is plenty. For a week, 5GB covers maps, Grab, messaging and a steady stream of food photos. If you'll be working remotely or hotspotting a laptop, look at 10GB or more.

Best time to visit

Singapore is hot and humid all year, so there's no bad season, just wetter ones. February to April tends to be drier and sunnier. The northeast monsoon brings the heaviest rain from about November to January, usually as big afternoon downpours that pass quickly. Chinese New Year and the school holidays make hotels pricier.

Entry tip: All travelers must submit the SG Arrival Card within the three days before arriving in Singapore. It's free on the official ICA website and the MyICA app. Official source.

Singapore travel tips

Just tap your card on the MRT
You don't need a transit card. Contactless Visa and Mastercard cards, or the same cards in Apple Pay and Google Pay, work at MRT gates and on buses at regular fares. Foreign cards add a small flat admin fee per day of travel, and you should tap in and out with the same card or phone.
Grab and Gojek for rides
Grab is the biggest ride and food delivery app in Singapore, and Gojek is a solid alternative that's sometimes cheaper. Set up your account and add a card before you fly so you can book a car straight from the airport.
Submit the SG Arrival Card
Fill it in for free on the official ICA site or the MyICA app within the three days before you arrive. Third-party sites charge for the same form, so skip them.
Crossing into Malaysia?
Day trips to Johor Bahru are popular, but this is a Singapore-only plan and won't work across the causeway. If Malaysia is on your route, a multi-country plan like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand is the simpler choice.

Singapore eSIM questions

It's not essential, since Changi has free wifi, but it makes leaving the airport much easier. With data you can book a Grab, follow Google Maps on the MRT and message your hotel. A small plan is usually cheaper than a single day of roaming.
No, the Singapore plans only cover Singapore. If you're heading to Johor Bahru or traveling on through Malaysia, choose a multi-country Asia plan that includes Malaysia instead.
No, it's data-only. WhatsApp, iMessage, FaceTime and other calling apps work fine over data. Leave your home SIM on with data roaming off if you need to receive bank verification texts.
About 3GB to 5GB is enough for most 5-day trips. Maps and ride apps use little data, and you'll have wifi at your hotel and in most malls.
Yes, and it works very well. It shows MRT routes, bus arrival times and walking directions across the city, so it's worth having data for.
Yes. Contactless cards and phone wallets work at MRT gates and on buses. Foreign-issued cards pay a small daily admin fee on top of the regular fare.
Some plans send data out through Hong Kong rather than Singapore. Everyday browsing, maps and messaging work as normal, but a few apps and streaming services that limit Hong Kong access may act differently.
eSpeedz doesn't sell unlimited plans for Singapore. The largest plan is 50GB for 30 days at $56.99, which covers maps, social media and video calls for most trips. Many plans sold as unlimited slow down after a daily fair-use limit, so compare the fine print.
